does noise happen in space? thats a bad way of phrasing that, but like are there sounds in space? even if not, a whoopee cushion would still be clasic!

gordon i have a request. I would like to see a john wallis comic. cause him and i are like infinity!

on close inspection did i miss the joke? that the dude is dissapointed because it didnt make a sound?
see i went with the whole he didnt blow up the whoopee cushion because theres no air in space (it looks kinda flat) and that was why he was dissapointed?
or are both acceptable jokes?

Hehe... this reminds me of Futurama:
"That just raises further questions!"

Also, no sound doesnt happen in space.

Ahh! I was commenting at the same time!

Well initially the joke was that it would make no sound... but either way is good :)

Clearly the whoopie cushion was blown up. The joke intended was the fact that sound doesnt travel in space. Which is why star wars doesnt make sense, as explosions are heard in those films. (although i still like star wars). The title being "Nerd Joke Abundant", implies to me that the original joke was the sound does not travel in space.

*** "Nerd JOKES Abundant"

if your saying star wars doesnt make sense because it has sound in space, maybe your forgetting the whole ITS FICTION and there are also further debatable things in those movies like force pushing and all the other jedi tricks, and that whole lightspeed thing... oh mercy

Anonymous said...

True, but its proven noise cannot travel in space. Jedi 'tricks' has not as yet been proven nor disproven...although it is true that the laws of physics cannot be broken on earth....star wars is on other fictional planets...but i have to agree on the lightspeed thing, as it is theoretically not possible to accelerate a craft up to and beyond lightspeed...although currently research is being conducted into accelerating particals at the speed of light....hahaha this comic is a debate in itself lol

Well aim (or so i assume) looking at this comic more closely you can see that theres nothing tieing them down and they're not floating around, perhaps they're inside the ship. in which case the sound would have been heard and johns entire joke is ruined!
yeah john, apart from the conversation that aroused from this one, i think it was a rare miss for you. ahaha or maybe it was just that it took me half a sec to get the joke in the first place

well, gordon, it wouldn't make a difference whether they were inside or outside the ship - either way, sitting down in space is hard (this gravity generator i've been working on is being problematic). If they're outside they're not tethered; if they're inside, that's a big picture window to have in a space ship. Also if there was a vacuum to prevent the propagation of sound waves, you wouldn't be able to keep air in a woopy cushion long enough to sit on it. So concludes my scientific evaluation of the factual accuracy of GJ comics.

In conlusion, good comic, John!
